The future of our planet, Earth, has been incessantly barraged by natural disasters, man-made disasters, famines, and droughts. The movie speculates that there is only one way to ensure mankind's survival: Interstellar travel. A small elite team of government officials sends teams of astronauts through a worm-hole in the universe to explore possible "habitable" worlds to colonize. It is exactly this government that has determined life on Earth is no longer sustainable. And yet, they scrub human history to deliver only the official government version (a mix of fact and fiction) to our children and the consuming citizenry. With such overbearing government, will anyone ever be prepared for the truth? This movie seems to echo the sentiment of two earlier movies, Serenity, where government biochemical emissions lead to a race of hostile human-eating zombie creatures called Reavers, and Event Horizon, a movie summed by the Latin distress signal they ultimately understand: "Liberata te tutemet ex inferis" - Save Yourself from Hell.
